Dr. Daniel Phillips is a trusted Southgate optometrist known for combining advanced eye care with a warm, personal approach that has earned the loyalty of generations of families throughout the Downriver community. At Phillips Eye Care, patients consistently describe Dr. Phillips as thorough, compassionate, knowledgeable, and someone who truly takes the time to listen and explain every step of their care.
Dr. Phillips earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. He has served as President of the Metropolitan Detroit Optometric Society and received the Michigan Optometric Association’s prestigious Keyperson Award in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the profession. He is also passionate about mentoring future optometrists and has helped train many students who have gone on to successful careers in eye care.
Patients appreciate that Dr. Phillips never rushes appointments and focuses on providing individualized care using the latest diagnostic technology and treatment options. Under Dr. Phillips’ leadership, Phillips Eye Care has become one of Southgate’s most respected vision centers, offering comprehensive eye exams, dry eye treatment, contact lens fittings, medical eye care, and stylish eyewear for patients of all ages. The practice has proudly served the community since 1959 and was recognized by the City of Southgate with the Longevity Award for its longstanding commitment to local families.
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Phillips enjoys playing guitar and spending time with his wife, Ellen and their grown children, Will and Blake.
Dr. Will E. Phillips earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University and his Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry. In 1959, he established the practice and continues to remain an active and valued part of the office today.
Dr. Phillips’ distinguished career has been defined by service to both the community and the profession of optometry. He has served as president of local and state optometric associations, as national chairperson for VISION USA, and as an examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. The expanded scope of optometric practice in Michigan is due in large part to his advocacy and leadership within the political system.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the profession, Dr. Phillips was honored by the Illinois College of Optometry as one of its 125 most distinguished alumni.
Outside the office, he and his wife, Donna, enjoy spending time with their three children and six grandchildren.
